The Unhealthiest Drinks People Can Order From Drive-Thru Restaurants

1. Oreo Iced Capp drinks from Tim Hortons are just snacks. Most people love Oreos, especially when they can dunk them in milk. When you can… Trista Smith - March 8, 2021

Everyone loves carrying a store-bought beverage in their hand and then sipping out of that straw as they mingle. As long as it has the label on it, you feel like a million bucks from fruity drinks to iced coffees. However, your favorite go-to drink shops like Starbucks or Dunkin’ don’t consider if that cool-looking beverage is healthy or not. You may order it with low-fat milk and skip the whipped topping, but do you think about the other calories that are put into those drinks to make them taste oh-so-yummy? We all have a guilty pleasure, and for some, it might be stopping at your local coffee shop to indulge in a delicious caramel latte after a day of shopping, but is it worth it? That goes double if you are trying to eat healthily and exercise regularly.

Here we have a list of some of the more unhealthy drinks on the menu, ones that you may want to skip over if you’re trying to watch your figure or counting those carbohydrates and sugars because you have diabetes. Let’s not forget that they’re not always the cheapest drinks either. Sometimes the fancier they get, the more they cost, especially when you start asking for an extra pump of mocha with two shots of espresso to your already large Frappuccino. It’s okay to treat yourself once in a while; just try not to make a habit out of it. That shouldn’t be too hard after you realize these are the unhealthiest drinks from Sonic, Biggby Coffee, Starbucks, Dunkin’ Donuts, Tim Hortons, Tropical Smoothie Café, McDonald’s, and your other favorite drive-thru restaurants.

This drink seems very tasty, but understand that it is not healthy whatsoever. MyBios

30. The Kit Kat Coolatta from Dunkin’ Donuts isn’t so “cool.”

In June of 2019, Dunkin Donuts launched a few Hershey’s inspired drinks. One included the famous Kit Kat candy bar, making it a Kit Kat Coolatta. It’s just a Vanilla Bean Coolatta, but with pieces of Kit Kats mixed in for flavor. That doesn’t sound very nutritional, does it? So don’t skip your morning breakfast just because it also has food in it. It’s far from a healthy and nutritious smoothie. However, as a dessert, it could probably pass as one on a special occasion.

If you are watching your figure and counting those calories, you may take a step back and re-evaluate if this is worth the hit, though. It comes in at a whopping 570 calories and 108 carbohydrates if you’re counting those as well. It is a horrible choice if you have diabetes. That’s a whole meal in a cup when it comes to those carbs! There’s quite a bit of sodium and cholesterol in this drink, too. The sodium is 108 milligrams and 15 milligrams of cholesterol per serving.

Just because the title includes the word hazelnut as an ingredient doesn’t mean this drink is healthy. Pexels

29. Maybe rethink getting that Hazelnut Swirl Frozen Chocolate drink from Dunkin’ Donuts.

You probably aren’t going to be ordering a drink from Dunkin’ Donuts if you’re on a diet, but it’s best to be reminded of why in case you are trying to think of reasons why to avoid specific snacks. This Hazelnut Swirl Frozen Chocolate may be delicious and have just the right amount of both hazelnuts and chocolate swirled together in a creamy frozen drink, but it’s far from being a healthy drink. To be real, though, who’s going to Dunkin’ while thinking they’re going to get something healthy, though, right?

If you are healthy and desire to stick to the weight you’re at, why wouldn’t you? You would not want to order this drink. Just one of these large drinks contains 900 calories! That’s half the amount of calories you should be taking in daily. Is it worth it? That’s 153 calories from fat and a total of 170 carbohydrates! Talk about diabetes in a cup! With numbers like that, that’s at least two meals worth right there, in just one drink. Wow!

Beware of how companies use ingredients to trick you into thinking the drinks are healthier than what they really are. Pexels

28. Chai drinks don’t always mean healthy.

When thinking of chai tea, you would probably think it’s healthy for you, but you would be mistaken. If you were to order a Frozen Vanilla Chai at Dunkin’ Donuts, you wouldn’t be getting a drink that came from a brewed chai tea bag, as you would probably think. Instead, it comes from a powder form, which is where you get the flavor from. It doesn’t sound too appealing now, does it? Who knows all that else is put into it, either, besides the whipped cream and crushed ice.

A Frozen Vanilla Chai contains not only 80 carbohydrates but also 120 milligrams of sodium. It also has 75 grams of sugar. You could brew a tea and mix it with crushed ice and sugar, making your own frozen chai tea drink. That would be a much healthier alternative to this. It would save you some money, too, since you wouldn’t even have to leave your home to make this drink if you already have the ingredients at home to make it.

27. You are going to say “wow!” at these drinks, and not for good reason.

Dunkin’ Donuts has plenty of drinks that sound delicious, but let’s face it, none of them are all that healthy. Unless you were to order a black coffee with absolutely nothing else, it’s not the most nutritious place to go to get something to eat or drink, and with that said, this next drink says no different. Say hello to the Frozen Dunkaccino! It may not sound so bad with the name; it just sounds like a fancy coffee you ordered from Dunkin’ that was made frozen instead of hot until you hear the nutritional facts.

If you don’t plan on eating a couple of meals and want to get your calories in by drinking them instead, then maybe this drink is for you, although that’s not recommended. When you order a large, you would be taking in a whopping 930 calories and 198 calories from fat! If you have diabetes and take insulin, then get your insulin ready because this drink is 177 carbs each when you order a large. That’s not all! The sodium in this drink is up there, too, with a total of 350 milligrams.

It doesn’t matter if something is hot or cold — that has nothing to do with nutrition. Pexels

26. Frozen Chocolate from Dunkin’ might not be so cool, either.

When ordering this drink, you may think it looks fancy, but when you hear about all the calories, carbs, and everything else it’s loaded with, you may rethink just how fancy it is. With this drink, you can choose between a few different flavors to add to it, such as caramel, hazelnut, vanilla, and original frozen chocolate. The beverage is then topped off with whipped cream, giving it that finishing touch. Let’s hear about the calories in this drink and see if you might change your mind when deciding what to order next time you’re at Dunkin’ Donuts.

A large Frozen Chocolate from Dunkin’ Donuts contains 900 calories. That’s almost half the recommended daily calorie intake for someone. Not only that, but if you have diabetes, you may go into shock with this drink. It has 176 carbohydrates alone. Prepare your insulin before downing this beverage! Moreover, if you’re watching your sodium intake as well, be careful with this one. It also has 380 milligrams in the large drink. When looking up the ingredients for this drink, they may not sound bad. However, you may have a hard time pronouncing a few of them.

25. Caramel Craze Latte, way more than three ingredients.

If you’re a caramel lover, you may find yourself wanting to order this drink; it’s in the name! However, consider that it may have more than just a few simple ingredients to make up this tasty drink. It’s more than just caramel, coffee, whipped cream, and more caramel drizzled on top to make it look fancy. This drink comprises more than eight different ingredients, one of them being high fructose corn syrup and two preservatives. Now, doesn’t that sound even more delectable?

Now, this drink may not have as many carbohydrates as some of the other Dunkin’ Donuts’ beverages, at 61 carbs for a large, but it still has quite a bit of sodium, totaling in at 190 milligrams. If you’re trying to watch your cholesterol, you may want to skip out on this drink next time you go to order a drink from Dunkin’. It tops out at 45 milligrams for a large and 410 calories. Still, not as bad as some other drinks you could be sipping on. It’s still not something you should probably be drinking, though.

Have you ever ordered drinks from McDonald’s McCafe? Pexels

24. Cheaper drinks don’t mean healthier choices.

Ordering McCafe drinks may sound like a good idea, they taste good, and they’re a lot cheaper than some drinks from places like Starbucks, but they’re not any healthier. For example, a large Caramel Frappe from McDonald’s may sound like a good choice to go along with your chicken nuggets on a hot day. However, it’s not the best thing to request. Of course, you’re already ordering from McDonald’s. Are you making the healthiest food choices, to begin with? The answer to that is probably not.

Pexels

One of the top ingredients in the caramel coffee frappe base is high fructose corn syrup and potassium citrate. Serious side effects from high consumption of potassium citrate include uneven heartbeat, muscular weakness or limp feeling, severe stomach pain, numbness, or tingling in your hands, feet, or mouth. On top of all that, a large Caramel Frappe from McDonald’s has 670 calories, 27 grams of fat, and 96 carbohydrates. Just because it’s a lower price does not mean that it’s a healthier choice, as well. That is a drink that you should probably stay away from.

23. McDonald’s is trying to fit in with those frappe drinks.

The Mocha Frappe from McDonald’s, just like the Caramel Frappe, may sound like a good deal, but only because it’s a reasonable price doesn’t mean it’s an excellent choice to choose from. This drink also has the same ingredient as the Caramel Frappe, potassium citrate, which is something you should probably try to avoid if you can. It just doesn’t sound like it would be worth the agony of the side effects if you were to go on a binge and drink a Mocha Frappe from McDonald’s several days a week for weeks at a time. Some people probably do, too.

Like the Caramel Frappe, the Mocha Frappe also has 670 calories per large drink. It also has 98 carbohydrates per glass and 26 grams of fat. It does come in at a total of 11 grams of protein, but it’s not worth it. You could eat something that would be much more filling and more healthy than a frappe from McDonald’s and get more protein than one of these drinks. A cheeseburger from McDonald’s has 370 fewer calories than a large frappe does. You could order a cheeseburger and a small fry which would be a total of 520 calories. That’s still less than this one drink!

You probably frequent McDonald’s quite a bit for food and drinks. Pexels

22. McCafe drinks sound fancier than they are.

When you order a latte, whether it’s hot or iced, you would think it’s a healthier choice than something like a frappe, and it is, but it’s still not the most nutritious. An Iced French Vanilla Latte from McDonald’s isn’t the worst thing you could be ordering, and it doesn’t have many ingredients in it, either. However, it does have a preservative in the French vanilla syrup, in case you were curious. They even give you a choice between the milk you would like to have added.

Pexels

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW

Let’s say you order a large Iced French Vanilla Latte with whole milk. That will be 360 calories you are about to drink down. There are a few more calories in that drink than a cheeseburger from the same place. Think about that for a second. Would you rather eat a meal or drink your meal? You could have both, but then you would be doubling the number of calories you’d be taking in in one sitting. Furthermore, that drink alone also has 53 carbs.

21. Maybe think twice about that Strawberry Banana Smoothie from McDonald’s.

When people think of smoothies, most of us think healthy. Smoothies are full of fruits or vegetables and are supposed to be healthy and full of nutrients that our bodies need to help us get through the day. However, if you are already at McDonald’s ordering food, are you making healthy choices as it is? Ordering a smoothie from here may make it seem like you’re making a healthy choice, but not when you hear about some of the ingredients it contains. You may think twice next time before ordering your next Strawberry Banana Smoothie from McDonald’s.

Pexels

You may think a large Strawberry Banana Smoothie isn’t bad when it comes to only having 1 gram of fat, but it also has 330 calories in it and a total of 76 carbs. Probably not the best drink if you have diabetes and have to watch your carbohydrate intake either, especially when thinking a smoothie would be a good choice in place of soda pop. One of the ingredients it contains is xanthan gum, pretty harmless, except that it can cause intestinal gas and stomach bloating.

20. That Chocolate Shake is a whole meal.

Many people like to order a chocolate shake to go along with their burger and fries, but do they ever think about just how many calories may be in the shake alone? Or how many carbs are they taking in, only by the drink itself, not including the food as well? When ordering a large Chocolate Shake from McDonald’s to go with your burger and fries, you are doubling those numbers fast. If you have diabetes or trying to watch your figure, you may want to rethink that before ordering.

Pexels

A large Chocolate Shake from McDonald’s contains 830 calories alone, 21 grams of fat, and even 139 carbohydrates. That’s many carbs in one drink! A Big Mac doesn’t even have that many calories. It only has 550. You could order a Big Mac and a medium fry, which would only be a total of 870 calories. That’s still ten calories less than one large chocolate shake. If you also got the shake to add to that meal, you would almost meet the total recommended daily calorie intake in one meal.

19. Not the old black, white, and red all-over joke.

The Black, White, and Red Over Freeze from Biggby sounds like a fun drink. Even the name makes it sound interesting. A fun drink does not mean a healthy drink, that’s for sure, especially when you order a large beverage. Having a hard day and want to treat yourself to something delicious? It may sound good with some of the ingredients that make up this tasty drink, but the numbers may make you rethink your choices after hearing what they are.

Biggby Coffee has multiple sizes to choose from when ordering your drinks, which works out well for everyone. Nevertheless, you may want to rethink what you say before you decide on that 32oz drink. The 32oz Black, White, and Red Over Freeze from Biggby contains 904 calories. That’s about half of the daily intake of calories you should be having! In case you were also curious, it’s 182 carbohydrates for this drink of this size. So if you have diabetes, this may not be the drink for you.

If you are on a diet, you should not be ordering a specialty coffee drink from anywhere to begin with. Moreover, if you have diabetes, you probably shouldn’t be drinking many of these specialty coffee drinks either because the carbohydrates are ridiculously high in most of them. The Chocolate Chip Cookie Freeze from Biggby Coffee takes the cake when it comes to surprisingly high numbers of calories and carbs. Not only will you be full after sucking this beverage down, but you may be questioning your choices after this. We’re just as shocked writing about it as you probably are going to be reading it.

Not only does this drink contain more than half of your daily recommended calorie intake, at 1510 calories at 32 oz, but a drink this size also has a whopping 256 carbohydrates. Talk about going into diabetic shock after this drink. Furthermore, the only ingredients this beverage contains are ice, tenacious tonic, chocolate chip cookies, and milk. We’re pretty sure that it’s not the ice that tips the scales over, but the chocolate chip cookies they added with the milk. You may want to be sure that you have your insulin ready when ordering this drink!

Are you looking for a drink that’s an energy drink but like a milkshake? This would be your drink. If you’re a fan of Red Bull, you may be eyeing this up on the menu when you walk into Biggby coffee. It’s packed with 160 milligrams of caffeine in a 32oz drink, plus being ice-cold, you would think it’d be perfect as a refresher when you need the energy boost on a warm day. However, the number of calories and sodium in this drink may slow you down.

We all know that a regular can of Red Bull doesn’t contain 700 calories. However, the Red Bull Crème Freeze from Biggby does. Do you want to take in all those extra calories to get almost the same caffeinated effect? Not only is this drink loaded with calories, but it’s also packed with 152 carbs and 500 milligrams of sodium. You’re better off drinking a couple of cans of Red Bull alone, even though that is not recommended either. This drink just sounds like a stomach ache waiting to happen.

When we think of summertime desserts, strawberry shortcakes may come to many of our minds. However, when thinking about what goes into making strawberry shortcakes, we may not believe that lemonade is one of the ingredients. In this drink, though, it is! You would never have guessed it when reading the name, in any case. It shocked us, too. You wouldn’t think it’d have as many calories in it as it does since it is just made up of strawberries and lemonade.

It’s no surprise, though, that another drink from Biggby Coffee isn’t as healthy as it may first sound. A 32oz of the Strawberry Shortcake Crème Freeze has 787 calories and even 101 milligrams of sodium. What on earth is in that lemonade they put into that drink? The carbohydrates stack up to 173, as well. Something to stay away from if you have diabetes or have to watch your carb intake. It’s also probably a good idea to stay away from most of these drinks if you have to manage any consumption that doesn’t include water.

15. H=MC2 at Biggby Coffee, you do the math.

Ordering a H=MC2 Crème Freeze from Biggby may sound fancy or weird because we all know what the math equation is supposed to be. That aside, it’s important to remember that you should consider what you may be ingesting when ordering drinks. That doesn’t mean just the ingredients put into the beverage that makes it up, but the calories, carbs, fat content, and sodium. Also, think about the grams of sugar added to the liquid you may be consuming, too, and think about how unhealthy it is.

When you order a 32oz cup of the beverage H=MC2 at Biggby Coffee, you’re not only getting the caramel, marshmallow, and cinnamon flavors you’re looking for. You will also be getting a whopping 1010 calories, 25 grams of fat, 342 milligrams of sodium, and 156 grams of sugar. That drink probably doesn’t sound as delicious as it did before knowing that, huh. If you are going to be ordering this drink, maybe try ordering the 16oz. At least it’s only 570 calories. That’s still a lot, but it’s a lot less than the 32 oz.

14. Gotta lotta love for the Lotta Love Latte Crème Freeze.

So the name for this drink seems cute, right? Lotta Love Latte Crème Freeze from Biggby Coffee sounds sweet, of course, because it has the word love in the name. It doesn’t mean that it’s that sweet to your body in a healthy way. White chocolate and strawberries sound so delicious together, especially in a drink, hot or cold, but maybe not when it also comes with lots of carbs and calories. It’s like drinking a whole meal when it’s not even a protein shake or vegetable smoothie.

Pexels

The Lotta Love Latte Crème Freeze from Biggby does have almost 13 grams of protein in it. However, it’s not a recommended source to get it from. This drink has 342 grams of sodium and a whopping 1021 calories! If you have diabetes and count your carbs, you may want to skip this drink. That will spike your blood sugar, with carbohydrates of 187 in a 32oz cup. You can cut down the calories a little bit by ordering it with nonfat milk instead of 2%. However, it still doesn’t make it a healthy drink.

Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad, but is the bad worth the good? There are still many calories in this drink, along with the carbs and grams of sugar. However, you will at least get a boost of energy with this drink because it has 42 milligrams of caffeine in it.

Usually, when we think of smoothies, we may think of them as refreshing and healthy. They may be refreshing due to the sweet flavors they may have. This smoothie from Tropical Smoothie, in particular, is not that healthy. Some people drink smoothies in place of a meal for breakfast or lunch, or even as a snack, but when it’s high in calories or carbohydrates, is it making a difference? Probably not. Take the Chia Banana Boost with Peanut Butter Smoothie, for example. You will be surprised by how unhealthy this drink is.

Another drink from Tropical Smoothie that is oh so delicious, but maybe not oh so healthy, would be the Beach Bum. Another thing about smoothies is that people sometimes prefer them over a milkshake or a soda. However, this one has chocolate in it, making it similar to a milkshake in a way if you think about it but with fruit mixed into it.

However, what they didn’t talk about was how unhealthy some of those drinks were. If you plan on ordering food from Sonic and having a malt beverage for dessert, you may want to rethink that. The Strawberry Crème Frappuccino blended beverage is another drink that may sound a bit more on the healthier side because it has fruit in it, but that’s where it gets you. Because not only does it have strawberries in it, but it’s a strawberry puree sauce, which contains a white grape juice concentrate, as well as xanthan gum that can cause you to become gassy and bloated as well. They also have to add fruit and vegetable juice for color. The strawberry puree wasn’t enough?

Although many of us might think we can multitask effectively, the truth is that we are not as efficient as we believe. You could accurately describe multitasking as task-switching. If your mind was not already cluttered, multitasking further exacerbates the issue by filling your mind with even more activity. Reducing multitasking can require much training because we have become so accustomed to the opposite. To practice, try setting a timer for how long you will spend on one task, and when the time is up, reset the time and move on to the next job.

That contributes to the overall clutter and serves no productive purpose. Part of decluttering your mind is distinguishing between what is essential and deserves a space in your mind and what is non-essential and needs to go. If you are an overthinker or someone who worries a lot, you may find that you will have more things in your mind and life that is not truly necessary or important in the grand scheme of things.

You will then want to create a new list that outlines each in order of importance. That can help you identify which thoughts are urgent and which can wait. When you are experiencing a cluttered mind, sometimes it can be therapeutic to confide in someone and share what thoughts are racing through your head. It is an excellent way to release and get out some of those pent-up emotions. If you have a significant other or best friend, let them know that you need to talk and then sit down to vent your mind.
