
Bethany Hamilton Escaped The Jaws Of Death Yet Continued Surfing
Bethany Hamilton’s story is one of remarkable resilience and perseverance. In 2003, while surfing in Hawaii, a 13-year-old Hamilton was attacked by a tiger shark, which resulted in the loss of her left arm. Despite the traumatic experience, Hamilton was determined to continue her passion for surfing. She quickly adapted to surfing with one arm and was soon back in the water, competing against able-bodied surfers. Hamilton won her first national title just two years after the shark attack. She continued to compete and became a professional surfer, inspiring people around the world with her courage and tenacity.
Hamilton’s story was even turned into a feature film, “Soul Surfer,” which documented her journey to becoming a world-class surfer after the attack. In addition to her successful surfing career, Hamilton has also become an advocate for shark conservation and has established the Friends of Bethany Foundation, which supports amputees and shark attack survivors.
