2. Sugar Scrub for Chapped Lips
Sugar often gets a bad name for being unhealthy. While it’s not good to consume lots of sugar in your diet, sugar is actually very good for your skin, and it’s a perfect natural remedy for many beauty products, especially chapped lips. There are no oil glands in the lips, so it can be hard to keep them adequately moisturized.
If the lips lack proper moisture, they can become dry, flaky, chapped and painful. To counteract this, it’s important to keep your lips soft and well-hydrated by using a lip balm like Vaseline or even coconut oil, drinking lots of water, avoiding licking your lips, and protecting them from sun damage by applying sunscreen.
If your lips have become chapped and flaky, avoid picking at them as this will only make them worse. There are many beauty products aimed at exfoliating dry skin on the lips, but they can be expensive. Using basic sugar from the kitchen will be just as effective, and much cheaper.
Simply mix a tablespoon of sugar (any kind will do, but organic raw brown sugar works best) with a tablespoon of your favorite carrier oil like coconut or jojoba, and apply onto your lips with gentle, circular motions. Use every few days or when your lips become especially dry for softer, healthier lips.
