Christie used to get natural tans, but she realized the damage she was doing to her skin. Now, the gorgeous supermodel chooses to fake instead of bake. In fact, on her blog, she says, “The sun gives us life, but it can also be our biggest enemy in regards to skincare.” She recommends applying SPF to your body every single day, especially your face. Not only will wearing an SPF protects your skin from skin cancer, but it can also save you from wrinkles, age spots, and blotchy skin. Look for SPF 15-30. You’ll need to reapply often, so the higher SPF doesn’t make that much of a difference. Avoid sunscreens with Vitamin A, oxybenzone, parabens, and homosalate. Though Vitamin A is good, putting on your skin isn’t great. Why? Because it can cause tumors or lesions to develop. Look for products with zinc oxide, avobenzone, or Mexoryl SX instead. Lotions are better than sprays since you want it on your skin, not in your lungs!

When she was growing up, Christie was raised to think that the sun could heal anything. If she had a sore throat when she woke up, her mom would tell her to go outside and “bake it out” of her. They thought the sun exposure was the healthiest thing they could do, so Christie is relieved to be able to “turn back the hands of time” now. In her first beauty book, she even had pages on how to get the best tan, like sitting near the water for the most water reflection, keeping yourself wet so you could magnify the sun, and dousing yourself in baby oil! Now, she says, “we know it’s the number one culprit in premature aging.” She felt so bad that she apologized for this entry in her second book!
