
23. Fogo Island in Canada feels like a land lost in time.
When you first step off the ferry from Farewell and descend on the Newfoundland coast, you will swear you have traveled back in time. Fogo Island is a place to forget all of your cares and enjoy life off the beaten path. There are 11 different unique communities, including the traditional Irish village of Tilting. You can stroll across wooden docks and scenic trails off sea-cliff footpaths. There is even a Caribbean-like beach with white sands and crystal-clear waters. Many art galleries are run right out of the locals’ homes. You can even witness icebergs in the late spring and watch a herd of caribou enjoy the nature around the beautiful area and lush forests.
