5. Galle in Sri Lanka welcomes you to walk among the ramparts.
The southwest coast of Sri Lanka lies a perfect city for the visitor who wants little luxury with their relaxing vacation. Galle is one of those places in Asia that has been preserved perfectly over time. There are colonial Galle Fort buildings that date back to when the Dutch owned the country, and there is plenty of Dutch influence throughout the city. Besides walking among the ramparts and taking in the history, the sightseeing options include visiting the old lighthouse. They rebuilt it in 1939 after a fire destroyed the original building. There is also an old Clock Tower that dates back to the 1800s (via Backpacker Travel).
