Somatic symptoms can be a sign of anxiety.
Anxiety can present itself in several different symptoms. Concern over what is wrong can also be a sign that your child is experiencing anxiety. Somatic symptom disorder occurs when a person has an extreme focus on any physical symptoms they may be having. If a child is experiencing pain, shortness of breath, or weakness, they could end up being majorly stressed and have issues functioning normally. They do not know what is happening, so they are scared of what could be wrong, and they are concerned about the loss of control that they are feeling.

Specific physical symptoms may be a result of a medical condition. This disorder is caused when one or more physical symptoms is disrupting a person’s daily life. If your child is anxious about their physical symptoms, it may be because they believe they are sick more than they have an illness. Regardless, you should have your child seen by a doctor to make sure there aren’t any severe issues happening. That is especially true when these symptoms are present for six months or more.
