Dry Needling
Dry needling has its roots in traditional Chinese medicine, where acupuncture has been practiced for thousands of years. However, dry needling as a distinct technique emerged in the 20th century when Dr. Janet Travell, an American physician, began using solid filiform needles to target trigger points in muscles for pain relief and muscle relaxation.
Unlike traditional acupuncture, which targets specific points along meridians, dry needling targets the tight or knotted areas in the muscle tissue that can contribute to chronic pain. The process of dry needling may seem intimidating, but it is minimally invasive and relatively painless. Many people who have tried dry needling report a significant reduction in their chronic pain symptoms. This allows them to improve their quality of life and decrease their reliance on medication.
